Registration Due April 4, 2013 for Carole Galloway Children's Workshop

 

Dahmen Barn resident artist Carole Galloway will work with children aged 6 to 12 to make a useful item beautiful on Saturday, April 6 from 1 to 3 pm. They will paint a wooden handle for a short broom in their choice of color and patter then embellish the hanger with beads. These 20" tall brooms are very handy in small spaces and with a dust pan just might be used in the child's room! Carole sells many of these small, pretty brooms to folks with RVs and travel trailers.  The cost is $15 and includes all materials.  Please register by April 4.  Registrations may be made by calling 509-229-3414 or use the online process at the top of the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org.

Registration Due March 18, 2013 for Wes Hanson Workshop

On Saturday, March 23 from 10 am to 4 pm at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown, Spokane artist Wes Hanson will lead a mixed media painting workshop titled “Painting What’s Inside”.  The class is for adults; no experience is required.  Participants will explore imagery lurking inside his or her self using different mediums and tools. The focus will be on developing the skills, curiosity and courage needed to create paintings that reveal each person’s artistic voice and viewpoint. The cost is $83 with students providing their own materials listed on the website calendar.  Registrations must be received by March 18, 2013, and may be made by calling 509-229-3414 or using the online process at the top of the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org.

This will be a performance of mostly acoustic mix, featuring Richard on the mandolin, but also including the fiddle, bass, guitar and harmonica, playing Brazilian, jazz, bluegrass, folk and swing. They will play some originals along with some obscure cover tunes. The cost is $10 at the door.  Come early for good seating.

Until recently, Richard Kriehn was an Instructor and the Academic Advisor, for the School of Music at Washington State University, where he taught Guitar Class, Intro to Music Technology as well as private lessons in mandolin, violin and guitar.


Richard performed with the Washington-Idaho Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Boise Philharmonic, Nashville Chamber Orchestra and has toured the United States, Canada and Japan with Nashville recording artists Michael Peterson, Aaron Tippin and Travis Tritt.

Starting in 2010, Richard has become a regular performer on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, which boasts 3.5 million listeners, every weekend.

Richard currently lives in Colton, Washington, with his wife Danette and their three children. This may be the last opportunity to hear this gifted musician play live because the Kriehn family is moving to Minnesota this spring.

Hog Heaven Big Band at the Dahmen Barn March 23, 2013


The energetic, 16 piece Hog Heaven Big Band will play tunes from the Great American Songbook on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 7:30 to 9:30 at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown.  Folks are welcome to come to listen or dance.  The cost at the door is $8 for a couple, $5 for a single.

The band has been playing on the Palouse for decades and began with the Dahmen Barn at its grand opening October of 2006.  This year Hog Heaven will play there in March, April, September and October, 2013.

Registration Due March 20, 2013 for Sandi Worthington Sculpture Workshop

RE:     Artist Sandi Worthington to teach a two day realistic sculpture workshop at the Dahmen Barn.  Registrations must be received by March 20.

This is a two day workshop on April 20 and 21 from 10 am to 4 pm both days at the Dahmen Barn for ages 16 and above where beginning or experienced students will choose their own subject and learn how to create realistic sculptures using an armature and clay.  The $155 cost includes most materials and tools students may keep.  Instructor Sandi Worthington is known nation wide for her realistic, detailed works in bronze.  Register by March 20 by calling 509-229-3414 or use the online process on the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org.

Registration Due March 8, 2013 for Freeman HS Alumni Basketball Tournament


The Annual Freeman Alumni Basketball Tournament will be March 14th, 15th, and 16th, 2013.
The tournament is the 34th annual Alumni tournament; the longest running tournament in Washington state.

*THIS YEAR WILL BE OUR 34th ANNUAL ALUMNI TOURNAMENT; THE LONGEST RUNNING TOUR-NAMENT IN WASHINGTON STATE.*

FORMAT : This year the teams will again be mixed up with rosters consisting of players from all era’s of  alumni. YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER.

The deadline for early registration will be on March 8th. Registration may also be done on the Freeman School District website @ www.freemansd.org. The tournament format will be single elimination for the championship with a loser’s bracket for third through eighth places. Individual T shirts will be presented to the championship team.

The entry fee for advanced registration is $25.00 (MUST BE PAID BEFORE YOU PLAY). It will include a T shirt to be kept by the participant. Participants may call or check the district website starting March 12th in order to find out their individual playing time and team placement. Fees can be sent in with registration or brought to the gym on the 14th.

Admission is $1.00 for all individuals with all proceeds going to FHS Letter Club.

Registration Due March 7, 2013 for Encaustics Workshiop by Artist Katherine Clancy


    Encaustics workshop scheduled for March 9 at the Dahmen Barn

The formula for encaustic painting can be summed up in six words: melt wax, add pigment, paint and fuse. On Saturday, March 9, resident artist Katherine Clancy will lead a workshop on encaustics painting for ages 16 and above at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown from 10:30 to 3:30.  The cost is $50 which includes all materials.  Students may bring a craft heat gun if they have one plus any small flat items they might want to collage into the encaustic picture.  Maximum class size is 5 and registrations are required by March 7.  Call 509-229-3414 or use the online process at the top of the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org.


Katherine Clancy paints primarily in watercolor. She has been painting for 20 years and has expanded into encaustics the past 3 years. She is a member of Idaho Watercolor Society and Palouse Women Artists. Her work is in homes and businesses in the region and across the US.
