Moscow artist Laurel Macdonald is holding a holiday card workshop for adults at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown on Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Participants will use 4X6 linoleums, cut out an image, and hand-print onto heavy paper. More linoleums can be used to add successive images and colors. Words can be cut out and printed onto the card.

Techniques and products shown will make this a project you can do at your kitchen table!  No experience is necessary, but the cutting process will require some arm strength.  Students bring some drawings or photos with images no larger than 4x6; all other supplies are provided.

The cost is $45 with registrations required by November 6, 2013.  Please call 509-229-3414 or use the online registration at the top of the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org to register.

Artist's Reception November 3, 2013 at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn for "Hone For The Holidays" Exhibitors

An exhibit titled "Home for the Holidays" opens November 1, 2013, at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn and runs through December 29, 2013. The artist reception will be held on Sunday, November 3 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Both resident artists and invited artists will display new works. Items in a wide array of media will be on display - pottery, birdhouses, photography, pastel paintings, textile art and mixed media.

Our resident artists were challenged to create something out of all the left over frame clips from metal picture frames.  For years Julie Hartwig, exhibit coordinator, has been framing and has accumulated a large box of metal frame clips. She challenged the artists to come up with something made from them. Some have been incorporated into paintings and others have been made into 3-D objects.

Everything is for sale and as the holiday season progresses from fall to Christmas, new pieces will be added.

On Saturday, October 26, 2013, from 10 am to 2:30 pm resident artist Katherine Clancy will lead a workshop in encaustics at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown.

Encaustics is an ancient medium dating back to the early Egyptians.  A medium of beeswax, damar and pigment are melted and then applied in the liquid form to a wood surface.  Metal tools and brushes can be used to manipulate the wax surface. Other materials can be collaged into the surface.  You do not need to be an “artist” to work in this medium, it has limitless possibilities.  Students bring collage materials of their choice and a heat gun if they have one.  The cost is $55 which includes all supplies for creating two encaustic pieces. Registrations are required by October 23.  Call 509-229-3414 or use the online form at the top of the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org to register.
