Self Expression Workshop for youth aged 10 to 15 at the Dahmen Barn on August 4, 2012

At Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown, Saturday, August 4th from 10 to 11:30 am, artist Charis Alderfer-Mumma will lead youth aged 10 to 15 in using mixed media to represent themselves and/or a memorable experience, place, or time in their lives.

Participants are encouraged to bring items from home that hold value or a symbolic meaning for them, such as pictures, postcards, maps, mementos, small found objects such as pebbles or seashells, etc.

The instructor will also have a variety of materials available for use including paints, collage images, stamps, fabric, tissue paper, small 3-D objects such as buttons, etc. No previous experience is necessary.

The cost is $25.  Registrations must be received by August 1, 2012, and may be made using the link at the top of the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org or call 509-229-3414.

Charis Alderfer-Mumma is a mixed media artist and art therapist who has encouraged individuals to express themselves and their experiences through art in a variety of settings, including public and alternative schools, early learning centers, residential programs for youth, counseling centers and day programs for older adults and individuals with medical needs. She enjoys giving individuals the tools and basic skills for self-expression and watching the unique creations that follow with anticipation and wonder.

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center just off highway 195 in Uniontown in the big white barn behind the famous iron wheel fence.  The fully ADA compliant facility is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm and has no daily admission fee.
