"Old Fashioned Sunday" at Dahmen Barn September 16, 2012

“An Old Fashioned Sunday in Autumn” returns to the Dahmen Barn

On Sunday, September 16 from 11 am to 3 pm, “An Old Fashioned Sunday in Autumn” returns to Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown.  This 6th annual FREE fall event features a pie baking contest with sales of pie ala mode following the judging and a silent auction of desserts which are contained in beautifully decorated boxes made by our resident artists.

Live music occurs throughout the event. Loose on the Palouse will play accompanied by a tractor for percussion and our good friend Bodie Dominguez will perform some western music.  In addition, Miss V will perform with her unique perspective and personality, experiences, free spirit, clever lyricism and classic rhythms on the guitar and her homemade banjo, blended together to create her signature "Cowbilly" music.

We welcome the Antique Power Club back with their vintage farm equipment again this year. They will do a show and shine exhibition along with a demonstration in an adjacent field.  Two of their members build exquisite scale models of engines and will be there to demonstrate their operation.

Vintage movies of farming on the Palouse will run continuously, and the Rural Heritage Display loaned by the Whitman County Library features still Palouse photos from the past.

Watch local artisans demonstrate their time honored crafts in the yard behind the wheel fence including a variety of fiber arts, black smithing, hand carved spoons and ducks, cider pressing, broom making.

Resident artist Donna Baker will be demonstrating her portrait skills at the event.  She can do a quick draw rendition or work from a person sitting or from a photograph.  Be sure to visit our other resident artists working in their studios inside the Barn.

The drawing for the cast iron outdoor fireplace fabricated by The McGregor Company and donated as a fund raiser for the Dahmen Barn will be held.  Drop in to the Barn in advance to see this lovely piece in person or go to the website's home page. Tickets are $5 each or two for $8.  You need not be present to win, so call 509-229-3414 if you would like to purchase some chances in advance.

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center in Uniontown off highway 195 in the big white barn behind the famous iron wheel fence.  The fully handicap accessible facility is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Information:  www.artisanbarn.org or 509-229-3414.
