Free Country Swing Dance Lessons August 31. 2012

At Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown, on Friday August 31, 2012, a country swing dance is scheduled with free dance lessons preceding the dance.  Drop in for the dance lessons at 6:15; the dance begins at 7:30.  Dance lessons are free; those attending the dance must pay the $7 cover charge.

Classic country music for the dance is provided by  Bodie Dominguez, a good Friend of the Barn. Lessons will be given free of charge by David and Gabby Skeate, who are popular instructors for Pullman Parks and Recreation.

This dance was suggested by Gail Miller, enthusiast for country swing dancing. Gail said, “I took my first country swing dance class back in 1980 and danced regularly with my partner from that class at the Capricorn Ballroom in Moscow. I pursued grad school at U Texas-Austin where I danced in some of the big Texas dance halls. Eventually, my original partner moved away, and when I returned to the Palouse, the Capricorn Ballroom had burned down.

"I’ve always missed country swing and wanted to get back into it, so when I saw David and Gabby Skeate’s class at Pullman Parks and Rec I signed up for a refresher course. I’m now looking for a new partner!”

Bodie’s music is diverse: his early influences were classic country and rock and roll. He has performed in clubs and honky tonks for nearly forty years with a group and as a single doing dance music and classic country.

During the last 15 years, Bodie has been involved with cowboy music and poetry as well. Bodie has performed in just about every club and honky tonk bar within a 200 mile radius of the Lewiston, Clarkston area at one time or another. Bodie started playing with bands in 1972. He has branched out into song writing, promoting, radio DJ, but his best interest is live performances for dances, in radio, cowboy gatherings, clubs, weddings, and private parties.
