Registraton Due October 23, 2013 for Katherine Clancy's Encaustics Workshop, October 26, 2013

Learn to paint with pigmented wax at the Dahmen Barn

On Saturday, October 26, 2013, from 10 am to 2:30 pm resident artist Katherine Clancy will lead a workshop in encaustics at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown.

Encaustics is an ancient medium dating back to the early Egyptians.  A medium of beeswax, damar and pigment are melted and then applied in the liquid form to a wood surface.  Metal tools and brushes can be used to manipulate the wax surface. Other materials can be collaged into the surface.  You do not need to be an “artist” to work in this medium, it has limitless possibilities.  Students bring collage materials of their choice and a heat gun if they have one.  The cost is $55 which includes all supplies for creating two encaustic pieces. Registrations are required by October 23.  Call 509-229-3414 or use the online form at the top of the calendar page at www.artisanbarn.org to register.

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center in Uniontown on highway 195 in the big white barn behind the famous iron wheel fence.  The three storey facility is fully handicap accessible and has no daily admission fee.  It is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.  Information:  www.artisanbarn.org or 509-229-3414.

"Eggshell Mosaics" Workshop for Kids 6-Adult Registration Due April 20, 2012

Eggshell mosaics for children April 21

A workshop at the Dahmen Barn Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm, titled “Eggshell Mosaics” is offered by resident artisan Katherine Clancy for ages 6 through adult.
Embellish and decorate a paper mache' box with an eggshell mosaic and paint or tissue paper collage. Incorporating eggshells into artwork is a practice that has been passed down through generations in cultures around the world. This project introduces a new way to crush and color the eggshells without the time consuming process of dying and positioning each piece individually.

Parents are welcome to accompany children and each make a box. The cost of $14 per person includes all the materials. Katherine Clancy is a resident artist at the Dahmen Barn, and while her primary medium is watercolor she has been crafting and exploring other media for many years. Please register by April 20 either online at the calendar page at
www.artisanbarn.org or call 509-229-3414.
