Old-time Scandinavian Music at Dahmen Barn, October 5, 2013


 
On Saturday, October 5, 2012, at 2:00 pm, Nordic Spirit from Olympia, Washington will play old-time Scandinavian music at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown.  Nordic Spirit will share their passion for Scandinavian music and remind the audience that toe tapping, clapping and smiling are encouraged!

This lively music features traditional tunes from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Jane and Jeff Anderson will perform in authentic costumes and Scandinavian refreshments will be for sale at intermission. The cost is $10 at the door.

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center in Uniontown on highway 195 in the big white barn behind the famous iron wheel fence.  The fully accessible facility is open Thursday through Sunday with no daily admission fee.  Information:  www.artisanbarn.org or 509-229-3414.

"drafthorse" Wants Stories and Visual Art About Work and/or No Work


Writers, if you have some good "work stories" sitting around here is a market for you. drafthorse is a literary journal about work and non work.

The editorial mission states, "drafthorse is a biannual online publication of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, visual narrative, and other media art where work, occupation, labor ~~ or lack of the same ~~ is published.


"drafthorse welcomes unsolicited literary manuscripts and visual art. Work submitted in February, March and April will be considered for the summer issue. Work submitted in August, September and October will be considered for the winter issue.
"Our constant theme is 'work and no work.'"
Submission guidelines  detail what the editor of drafthorse is looking for. For examples, double click on the text beside the picture to read a complete story. In Non-fiction category, "Coal," by Paul Pekin is a good read.

Palouse Country Cowboy Poetry on tap at Dahmen Barn September 29, 2013


Palouse Country Cowboy Poetry provides "A Roaring Good Time!" at the Dahmen Barn Sunday, September 29, 2013,  from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Palouse Country Cowboy Poetry Association will perform cowboy poetry, music and song at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown.

Come and have "A Roaring Good Time" with this fun group.  Performing at the afternoon event are J.B. Barber, Dave Nordquist, Dick Warwick, Bodie Dominguez, "Farmer" Dave Fulfs and Hal Olson.

Dick Warwick won a first place silver buckle in a national competition at an annual National Cowboy Poetry Rodeo where competitors came from all over the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Admission is $7 at the door.

 

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center in Uniontown on highway 195.  The three storey facility is fully handicap accessible and has no daily admission fee.  It is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.  Information:  www.artisanbarn.org or 509-229-3414.

Hog Heaven Big Band Returns to the Dahmen Barn on September 28, 2013

 
After a summer break, the 16 piece Hog Heaven Big Band will return to the Dahmen Barn on Saturday, September 28, 2013, playing tunes from The Great American Song Book.
 
Come to dance or listen and watch some expert dancers from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.  Admission is $8 for couples and $5 for a single.
 
Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is a non-profit creativity center at 419 N. Highway 195 in Uniontown.

Beginning the last week of September  Hyper-Formance Jazz Dance Club Classes will be held around Spokane County, including at Moran Prairie.

  • Classes will be held all around Spokane county

Palouse Patchers Exhibit at Dahmen Barn and Latah County Fair





Palouse Patchers is a quilting group based in the Inland Pacific Northwest community of Moscow, Idaho with approximately 175 members of all ages, who come from the surrounding communities of the Palouse region of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.
During the month of September quilts by the Palouse Patchers on the theme of "Elements: Water, Earth, Wind and Fire" is on display in a Dahmen Barn Exhibit.  Scroll here to read the background of this beautiful quilt.

 
The origin of Palouse Patchers, according to a local historian, began with women who got together many years ago to make aprons such as those pictured here.



 
Palouse Patchers monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month, September through December, and February through June, at the Latah County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building at 1021 Harold Street, Moscow, Idaho. Social hour begins at 6:30 and the meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. Latah County Fair, September 12-15, 2013, Moscow, Idaho.
